2000 Martinelli Pinot Noir - Martinelli Vineyard - Reserve
(USA / California / Sonoma )

This vintage seems a little young still; definitely decant for at least an hour before serving. I've never had the Martinelli Vineyard Reserve before and it struck me with overripe fruit at first whiff, almost Shiraz-like. It mellowed over dinner and the tannins faded, revealing a fine PN with flavors ranging from figs & dates to currant & blackberry. The finish was nice and long, leaving me thirsty for another glass after we'd finished the bottle, three hours later. Give it up to four more years and enjoy.
